Fred Mutebi, leading woodcut artist has never shied away from putting political messages in his work. After 50 years of Uganda’s independence he asks himself and the public: At 50, does Uganda still need nurturing? The series in this new collection are meant to inspire Ugandans to give a woman the opportunity to attend to Uganda’s problems for at least five years come 2016 in order for Uganda to recuperate. They are also meant to inspire the upcoming artists to have a new approach to depicting women in their work so that we give them the kind of dignity they most deserve.
