A Walk in Makindye
New works by Mona Taha
Afriart Gallery is pleased to present A Walk in Makindye, a new body of work by Mona Taha.
Emerging from the artist’s daily walks through Makindye in Kampala, these paintings reflect moments of observation, reflection, and reconnection with the natural world. Working with watercolor, ink, coffee, tea, and collage, Taha creates layered compositions where the human figure dissolves into landscapes of color, light, and atmosphere.
Following a year-long pause from exhibiting, during which the artist turned toward research and self-inquiry, this new series marks a subtle but significant shift in her practice. The works move beyond portraiture into a broader exploration of nature as a space for renewal, reflection, and quiet attention.
At a time marked by speed and uncertainty, A Walk in Makindye invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the quiet rhythms of the world around us.
