Exhibiting Artists:
Daniel Atenyi (b. 1997, Uganda), Fiker Solomon (b. 1995, Ethiopia), Henry Mzili Mujunga (b. 1971, Uganda), Kaleab Abate (b. 1998, Ethiopia), Odur Ronald (b. 1992, Uganda)
At FNB Art Joburg 2025, Afriart Gallery presents five artists from Uganda and Ethiopia. These artists, though distinct in style and medium, are united by a deep engagement with identity and transformation. Through abstraction, layering, and the reimagining of everyday materials, they each explore how personal and collective histories shape self-perception and belonging.
Their practices often elevate what is overlooked—discarded objects, the everyday, marginalized communities, or forgotten narratives. By transforming these into sites of meaning, they challenge societal hierarchies and question how value is assigned, creating poetic spaces for reflection on the complexities of human experience.
This presentation not only brings together a diversity of narratives and perspectives that engage with shared themes, but also highlights the artists’ formal versatility of artistic production.
