It's a new month and once again we are dropping five favourites from Afriart Gallery’s catalogues – this time around selected by art enthusiast and collector Stephen Tio Kauma, a Cairo-based Ugandan national.
Tio is a founding Chairperson of CASU, the Contemporary Art Society of Uganda. He has a collection of artworks from modern and contemporary artists from over 15 African countries and the Caribbean. He has been Chairman of a panel of Judges for Ugandan based MMA Art Prize (2018 to 2022).
Professionally, Tio is Group Managing Director of Human Resources for the African Export Import Bank based at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. In addition to this role, he also leads the Bank’s art programme (Afreximbank Art Programme) which is building a contemporary art collection for the Bank and a platform off which the Bank can promote the visual art scene in Africa, to complement its creative industry banking products.
